[MPEG][DVD Navigator] Bypass DVD region check

Reported by: acidicmatter Owned by:

Description

I have a mix of Region 1 and 2 DVDs and playing a R1 DVD on my R2 DVD drive gives me a Invalid Disc Region error when using 'Open DVD...', however, if I open the .vob directly, it works. The only downside to this workaround is that the subtitle and audio streams don't have their language recognised (just comes up as Unknown) and switching between subtitle and audio streams usually takes 10-20 seconds. Works flawlessly in VLC.

Build: 1.3.1342.0 x64
OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard x64

I doubt that its is possible since MPC uses the Microsoft DVD Navigator filter, which enforces the region check.

Playing a VOB file, is like playing an MPEG file. It will bypass all DVD related functionality, including reading the language metadata from the .ifo files.

I suggest you try to find a region free firmware for your DVD drive.

  • Component changed from MPC_HC_SPLITTER to Patch Welcome

We probably need a new and custom dvd navigator to fix a bug like this one

It's not player job to bypass region check. We use Microsoft DVD Navigator filter and we will continue to do so. You can open VTS_N_0.IFO directly and MPC-HC VTS Reader will work regardless of the region.
